This photo is from my first roll of film on my dad’s Minolta and represents one of my favorite days from the summer of 2011. It was the day after my circus of a birthday party, I was hungover as hell, hadn’t showered, and Andrew picked me up to go stock up on film. As part of my birthday present, he bought me two rolls of Velvia 100 to try out. We spent the day photo-missioning and exploring LA, Jeff Tang and crew met us up at the Annenberg Space for Photography, then we ended the day listening to Shlohmo on repeat in Andrew’s car.
I’ll never forget Andrew telling me the first roll is almost always the favorite. It’s not particularly mind-blowing, but it has some of my life’s fondest memories attached to every single frame.
